FIRE ISLAND ARTIST RESIDENCY

ASTORIA, NY

Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR), the first residency in the United States exclusively for artists identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, two-spirit or queer, annually accepts applications for its prestigious and internationally recognized summer program. Now in its 15th season in the secluded beach community of Cherry Grove, NY, an historic LGBTQ settlement of Fire Island, emerging artists will share a live/work space for a four-week program marked by intimate studio visits with, and public lectures by, renowned leaders in contemporary art, scholarship, activism and curation.



THE CLAY STUDIO

PHILADELPHIA, PA

GRANT: $250/ WK

The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program offers individuals the opportunity to further develop their work, to establish professional contacts and standards, and to work within a community of like-minded individuals in an urban environment for up to three years. The program is designed for artists who are early in their careers to develop the skills to make their lives as artists. Each cohort intentionally reflects a range of experiences and diverse aesthetic approaches, cultures and perspectives. The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program assists artists to become successful members of the Philadelphia art community, while making national and international connections. 


A residency at The Clay Studio includes:

  • Personal studio space (approx. 185-195 sq. ft.) in our building

  • Use of kilns (specs available upon request)

  • A full stocked glaze mixing area

  • Paid Teaching opportunities (more details upon request)

  • A solo exhibition after the artist has been in residence for 24 months

  • Group exhibition opportunities

  • Grant writing support from our development staff

  • Professional support from the curator and other staff



CENTRALE FIES & VIAFARINI - FREE SCHOOL OF PERFORMANCE

DRO, ITALY

GRANT: $3,000

DEADLINE: 4/4/2025


LIVE WORKS is structured through multiple creative residency periods offered to the selected projects and views performance as a "workspace," serving both as tool and as cultural exercise. The specificity of the project lies in a particular focus on hybrid research, with the intention of highlighting the "openness" and fluidity of the performative, its social and political implications and its level of public understandability. The announcement is open to a wide range of performative actions, also including sound and new media arts, text-based performances, lecture performances, multimedia storytelling, choreographic practices, relational and workshop-based projects, and other projects questioning the idea of performativity beyond the body.


For the two residencies, travel costs to reach the venue, as well as food and accommodation during both residency periods, are covered (in agreement with the Organization of Centrale Fies). The budget of € 3.000,00 will be guaranteed according to the methods communicated after the selection. The performances produced will be presented at Centrale Fies in summer 2026, during Live Works Summit 2026. On this occasion the projects will be discussed by a board of international professionals, working for festivals, institutions, residencies and production programs that sustain and produce research in the performing arts field.



McCOLL CENTER - ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

CHARLOTTE, NC

GRANT: $6,000

McColl Center's Artist-in-Residence Program is an internationally acclaimed program that serves as a catalyst for artistic growth for emerging and mid-career artists. We host three residency terms per year:

  • Fall - August-November

  • Winter - January-May

  • Summer - June-August (Offered to Parents and/or Educators)

Artists-in-Residence receive private housing adjacent to McColl Center, a large-scale private studio in our historic building in Uptown Charlotte, curatorial guidance, marketing and PR support, and a generous stipend. While in residency, our artists have the freedom to fully focus on artistic research, exploration, and creation while also engaging with McColl Center’s Igniters community and the Charlotte-based creative sector. While in residence, artists also have access to our shared labs and studios including:

  • 3D Lab (3D printer and laser cutter)

  • Ceramics + Sculpture Studio

  • Darkroom

  • Media Lab with a large-scale printer

  • Woodshop

Artists-in-Residence participate in a group exhibition and lead one to two community engagements centered around their practice.



McCOLL CENTER - JOHN O. CALMORE CREATIVE ACTIVISM ARTIST RESIDENCY

CHARLOTTE, NC

GRANT: $6,000

The John O. Calmore Creative Activism Artist Residency at McColl Center seeks to honor the legacy of John O. Calmore, a pioneering figure who, after excelling at Stanford University and Harvard Law School, dedicated his life to combating racial injustice and poverty through both legal practice and academia. Drawing from his deep understanding of social issues, Calmore crafted a distinctive approach to critical race theory and social justice lawyering, encouraging lawyers to transcend traditional avenues of advocacy and challenge systemic inequalities in innovative ways. In this spirit, the residency calls upon citizen-artists worldwide, aged 21 and above, with a demonstrated commitment to socially and politically engaged artmaking. We welcome diverse artistic themes and disciplines rooted in the principles of risk-taking, creative expression, and critical thinking The culmination of this residency will be an exhibition in Toronto, Canada, serving as a testament to the power of art to inspire social action, problem-solving, and community connection.




BEMIS CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ARTS - SOUND ART + EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC

OMAHA, NE

GRANT: $1,250 + $2,500 MATERIAL BUDGET

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts launched its Sound Art + Experimental Music Program in May 2019 with generous support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Embedded within Bemis Center’s renowned international Residency Program, this opportunity offers a unique experience for two artists working in sound, composition, voice, and experimental genres and tools. National and international artists participating in the program receive financial, technical, and administrative support, along with dedicated facilities for rehearsing, recording, and performing new works that expand the field of sound art and music. Two selected artists-in-residence will enjoy a generously sized, private live/work studio complete with kitchen and bathroom. Applicants may select which 2026 session to attend: Spring: Jan 21-April 17, Summer: May 20 - August 14, or Fall: Sept 10 - Nov 14. Awarded U.S.-based artists-in-residence receive a $1,250 USD monthly stipend, a $750 USD travel stipend, and a $2,500 USD materials budget. Due to the limitations of B2 visas (touring/visiting), international artists-in-residence are eligible to receive reimbursement of qualified expenses, including airfare, ground transportation, and meals. Sound Art + Experimental Music artists-in-residence have 24-hour access to Bemis Center’s Sound Studio, a 1,000 square foot shared workspace that includes a variety of instruments, microphones, and software to assist and expand creative processes. Selected residents will also have access to installation and production spaces and the Okada Sculpture & Ceramics Facility.



UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO - QUEER AND TRANS RESEARCH LAB

TORONTO, CA

GRANT: $20,000

DEADLINE: 4/14/2025


The Queer and Trans Research Lab (QTRL) at the University of Toronto invites all qualified applicants to apply be our artist-in-residence for the 2025-26 school year. The QTRL residency will provide financial and other material support for artists working in any medium (photography, sculpture, visual art, media arts, theatre, poetry, playwriting, fiction, etc.), whose work centres on LGBTQ2S+ lives, communities, histories, and cultures. The residency will culminate in a funded exhibition, reading, screening, or performance of the resident’s work-in-progress. The successful applicant is expected to be in residence in the Greater Toronto Area during the period of their award and will join the faculty and students who make up our intellectual community and participate in activities at the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. These may include guest lectures, a public artist talk, office hours with our students, and a general presence at the Centre. They will be given office space and access to the vast faculty resources, manuscript archives, and library collections available at the University of Toronto and the Bonham Centre. In addition to financial support for a final artist showcase the successful candidate will receive a stipend of $20,000.



ST. ELMO ARTS RESIDENCY

AUSTIN,TX

GRANT: $30,000

DEADLINE: 4/21/2025


The St. Elmo Arts Residency within the Department of Art and Art History offers one fellowship each academic year to a recent MFA graduate specializing in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, or multimedia. The residency includes a $30,000 stipend, accommodations at a charming house and studio situated in a small artist community in the St. Elmo district of South Austin, a two-semester part-time teaching position at the University of Texas at Austin in the Art and Art History Department, access to UT academic and art lab resources, and a solo exhibition at the Visual Arts Center in the Spring of 2026.



THE CHINATI FOUNDATION

MARFA, TX

GRANT: $4,000

DEADLINE: 4/30/2025


Four to six artists are hosted annually for two-month residencies. Resident artists are provided with an apartment on the museum grounds, a studio in downtown Marfa, and access to Chinati’s collection and archive. A stipend of $4,000 is provided for honorarium, travel and art materials.

• Visual artists: 10-15 images (at least 300 dpi in JPG or TIFF format) of installations or works

• Audio/Sound/Dance/Performance/Video artists: 2-4 video or audio files

• Corresponding image captions with title, date, dimensions, media, and location of installation (on one page)

• Biography (between 100-200 words)

• Artist Statement (between 200-350 words)

• CV of education and exhibition history

Applications close on April 30, 2025. Due to the volume of applications, we cannot guarantee an email response to all submissions. Artists selected for 2026 residences will be notified in August 2025.
